I Want To Be A Novelist

How do you become a novelist? Impossible to say. There are courses in creative writing that may help, but ultimately you probably choose to write because you have to. What form that writing takes is of less importance than what it is that the writer has to say. The first step for any budding novelist is to get someone you trust to read your work and comment on it. Then you might consider sending a draft (a single chapter of a novel will be enough) to an agent (their names and addresses can be found in a publication called The Writers and Artists Year Book ). If you do decide to do this remember to keep a copy yourself, and, if you want your manuscript returned, enclose enough stamps to pay for the postage.
