The Daemon Puppets

The one question everyone asked when Nicholas Hytner announced that the National Theatre was to stage Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials was: "How are you going to do the daemons?" In February 2004 an audience in the Olivier Theatre got a chance to find out at first hand from two of the puppet makers, Yvonne Stone and Vicky King, and three of the actors who played daemons: Samuel Barnett (Pantalaimon), Emily Mytton (Stelmaria), and Jason Thorpe (the angel Baruch).

The event was chaired by Robert Butler author of The Art Of Darkness (Oberon Books 2003), the story of the making of the National Theatre's productions of His Dark Materials.
