A Workshop Approach

Henry V: A Workshop Approach

What follows is based on a practical workshop led by Peter Reynolds at the National Theatre in the summer of 2003. Participants included members of the cast of Nicholas Hytner’s production of Henry V and teachers and students from several London schools. The material can be used at Key stage 3 – 4.

The work is broken down into four 40 minute sessions. They can be run together or used separately. Each includes a note on preparation, warm up exercises, main workshop exercises, and a summary together with video and images from the National Theatre production of Henry V.

Those unfamiliar with teaching dramatic literature through a workshop approach might find it useful to look at Dramatic Events: How to Run a Successful Workshop by Richard Hahlo and Peter Reynolds, Faber and Faber, 2000.

Time: minimum 40 minutes per session.
