Ben wrightBen Wright trained as both a dancer and an actor. He describes himself as a narrative dancer who has always been interested in the parallels between acting and dancing. He looks for the story in each part. In dance, he says, you are in the moment, whereas in acting something else is always going on for the character. His fascination is in finding the balance between the two. His career has been spent mainly as part of the dance company, Adventures in Motion Pictures. He brings to his performance an understanding of physicality and movement together with an emotional understanding. His unique background has prepared him well for his main role in the National Theatre’s production of His Dark Materials as Mrs Coulter’s Daemon, the Golden Monkey. He says it seems natural to him to get a narrative across without speaking. He takes his cues from Patricia Hodge who plays Mrs. Coulter yet he also has to carve out an independent character for the Monkey. |
